Service Preparatory Institute Entrance Exam Details
- The Institute works under General Administration Department
(Desk-28) of Mantralaya. SPI is headed by a director who is a retired Armed Forces Officer
of the rank of Lt Colonel and above or equivalent ranks of Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.
Governing Body (GB) is appointed by the Government to oversee functioning of SPI. The
institute has a dedicated and experienced staff most of whom are retired personnel from the
Armed Forces, to look after training, discipline and welfare of the cadets all the time. A
homely and caring atmosphere is also ensured.
- The AIM is, “To encourage the youth of Maharashtra to join the
Armed Forces as officers.”
- SPI is a dedicated feeder to the National Defence Academy (NDA)
and the Naval Academy (NAVAC). The Institute aims to train the youth of Maharashtra to be
good military leaders. Hence the emphasis is on complete education and all-round personality
development.

Admission Eligibility
Criteria
- Domicile:
Domicile of Maharashtra/Belgavi/Bider/karwar. Every cadet is
required to submit the domicile certificate issued by the government to confirm his
candidature.
- Age Limit, Sex, and Marital Status:
Only unmarried male candidates can apply The Candidate must be bom
within the dates mentioned in the advertisement published every year.
- Educational Qualifications:
- Candidates studying in 10th standard of State/CBSE/ICSE or equivalent pattern with
English, Physics, Chemistry (or General Science) and Mathematics as subjects are
eligible to appear for SPI Entrance Examination.
- They must secure minimum 60% marks in 10th Examination
- The candidate should have also secured minimum of 60% marks in VII, VIII and IX
examinations
- Physical Standards:
- Height: 157 cms
- Weight: 43 Kg
- Chest: Without expansion : 74 cms expansion: 5 cm (minimum)
- Eye sight: 6/6 in a distant vision chart with better eye and 6/9 in worse eye. Myopia
less that 2.00 and hypermetropia less than 2.00 Including Astigmatism. A candidate must
have good binocular vision. Candidate should not be night blind and colour blind and
should be able to recognise red and green colours. (For details refer any previous UPSC

- Selected candidates will have to produce a “Medical Fitness Certificate” signed by a
qualified Registered Medical Practitioner at the time of joining. Separate medical test
will be conducted at SPI for candidates within first few days after joining. Those who
are declared ‘Fit’ by this panel will only continue at SPI.
Exam Pattern
- Multiple Choice Question Exam scheme had negative marking system. For correct answer +4
marks given and for wrong answer -1 mark deduction from obtained score.
- No Marks given to questions that are not attempted.
- Paper set from 8th to 10th syllabus of State board / CBSE / ICSE for English, Mathematics,
Science and Social Studies.
- Medium of examination is English
